The WHT’s NXT Conference: An Apprenticeship Journey
Friday, May 25, 2012
9:15 am to 2:00 pm
Mohawk College STAART Institute
The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and the Industry-Education Council of Hamilton are pleased to deliver the “WHT’s NXT Conference: An Apprenticeship Journey”. The conference has been specifically designed for current and past registered Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) students and their parents.
The conference will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012 from 9:15am to 2:00pm at Mohawk College STAART Institute. This is a MUST conference for current and past OYAP students. Find out information regarding Apprenticeship opportunities and what to do next. Speak with former OYAP students, journeypersons, banking and industry contacts.
Keynote speaker, Ryan Porter, kicks off the conference by presenting the concepts of teaching students to transform their attitudes and aspirations and how that can change their perceptions into lives full of actions. Lunch will be provided and parents are welcome.
OYAP is a School to Work program that opens the door for students to explore and work in apprenticeship occupations starting in Grade 11 or Grade 12 through the Cooperative Education program. Students who participate in OYAP are trained in a specific set of skills and are able to obtain apprenticeship hours and high school credits at the same time. This may lead to becoming a registered apprentice.
