Lucy McGreal from City of Hamilton explaining to a student about the career options in Public Works

On April 27, employers and grade 12 students met face to face at Nicolas Mancini Center in an employment awareness event ‘Path to Success’, organized by the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic School Board (HWCSB).

Marilyn Presutti, the organizer of the event said, the event was specifically prepared for students who don’t have a career plan yet and might be interested in transitioning directly from school to work. City of Hamilton Public works, Hamilton Health Sciences, Hamilton Police Services, Carmen’s Banquet, Home Depot, UPS , Foxx Pools and IEC’s apprenticesearch.com were some of the exhibitors that participated in the expo.

Other than informing and introducing the students about the career options in their respective workplaces, some of the exhibitors were also accepting resumes for summer jobs that are available at their companies/organizations.

Andi Pojani, Duty Manager at Carmen’s Banquet said based on his experience; he shared with students the importance of entry level positions, which will lead to greater career opportunities in the industry.

Jackie Ross from City of Hamilton said events like Path to Success are important to introduce the students to different career options available in the city public services.

Carm Presutti, Manager of Foxx Pools agrees that he uses such opportunities to connect with students and show them what his industry offers.
