The Annual Partners in Education Breakfast was held on November 1, 2011, celebrating 31 years of community partnership.Centered on the power of mentorship in preparing youth for their future as working adults, the event has celebrated community partnerships and individual volunteer career mentors, challenging Hamiltonians to be more proactive in investesting in our young people’s future.
The IEC Mentorship Award 2011- Business category was presented to the Hamilton Spectator. The Hamilton Spectator is nominated by the Faculty of Social Sciences Experiential Education Program at McMasters University. The IEC Mentorship Award 2011- Individual category was presented to Shonna Sager, a volunteer cofounder of Club Gains, a volunteer based organization that supports youth with developmental disabilities.
The event also focused on IEC's Career Mentorship program, which is a two-year project, funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). This project has been focused on tackling the challenge in finding and retaining high quality volunteer career-mentors. IEC released a guide-book which is a result of this project and documents best practices and strategies in recruiting and retaining volunteer career mentors.
