Romaine Sheriff, Manager of Clinical Practice & Education
Hamilton Health Sciences
Career Mentor since 1989

Romaine has been involved in career mentorship since 2003. She enjoys the opportunity to re-connect with students, who has chosen a career in the health care field because of the mentoring experience they have received at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS).  “This is the ultimate reward for me, and why I do it,” says Romaine.

Since 1989, HHS has been involved in various mentoring initiatives, from offering co-op  placements to hosting school tours to participating in Take our Kids to Work Day. They are a hub of activity in supporting students navigate their careers.  This provides HHS with a recruitment opportunity for both long term and short term careers.  “Students are our future employees,” says Romaine.

It also provides staff members with a richness of their experience and adds another dimension to their job responsibilities.  “For all of us that work within an academic health science centre we have a love of education and a love of teaching others, this is why we work here. It is a part of our job to support learners.”
