Mark Mullins, from Trillium Power Wind Corporation speaking at Saltfleet Secondary School for Grade 10 Students Career Class |
Are you looking to find a guest speaker to enhance a classroom lesson or unit? Look no further! IEC can coordinate this on your behalf by selecting a speaker that fits your needs and schedule!
Since November 2009, the IEC has offered Hamilton’s teachers with a FREE guest speakers’ service. Whether you’re looking for a handful of speakers for a career fair or looking for someone specific, we have over 350 community volunteers who are eager to come to your school and share their time and expertise.
In less than a year, we have coordinated 71 speakers’ bureau presentations which reached 2,908 students and utilized 79 employers. Plus, over the past few months, we have been assisting Hill Park, St. Jean de Brebeuf and Saltfleet with the preparation and coordination of career fairs/weeks.
We would like to thank the following schools for seeing the value of bringing career mentors into their classrooms to enhance their curriculum:
Ancaster
Billy Green Elementary
Bishop Ryan
Cardinal Newman
Cathedral
Delta
Glendale
Hill Park
Hillcrest Elementary
Orchard Park
Saltfleet
Sir Allan MacNab
Sir Winston Churchill
St. Jean de Brebeuf
St. Mary
Westmount
An important note: This service is available to all teachers in Hamilton. Many of our requests come from SHSM major teachers, careers or co-op teachers but can also be utilized by any subject teacher as a way to incorporate the world of work into their daily lesson plans. And…did we mention that we also have a variety of workplaces that are willing to open their doors, to your students, to participate in a Workplace Tour??
We are more than happy to visit with you and discuss your requirements for the 2010-2011 school year. If you are interested, please contact Lynda Coleman at 905.529.4483 ext. 222 or lynda.coleman@iechamilton.ca for more information.
